A two-hour walking tour of Paraty's historic center with a guide who lives here and has been telling this story for years. You'll cover the four churches, the old docks, the smugglers' alleys, Casa da Cultura, and the main square.
What makes the tour worth it is the small stuff — why the shutters are blue, how the streets flood on full-moon high tides by design, which merchant houses were secretly chapels, and the story of the three enslaved-built churches.
End point is typically a cachaça distillery downtown where you'll get a short tasting to finish.
